Hi all,

I am trying to map out the some of the stats of i3 databases, to know the limits. We often running into errors in i3init.sh based on the number of maps or the length of map filenames.

When running i3mrainitial.sh with 750 maps with particles with the filename:

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz_XXXXX.mrc

where the XXXXX is a %05d integer index.

I get the following error.

i3external: terminated by signal SIGSEGV (segmentation fault)
i3external: send bug reports to bugs@electrontomography.org

Does anyone have any information on the max sizes of external references in an i3 database?

Thanks!

More information:

Adding maps one by one I found that the database seems to grow unexpectedly nonlinearly.

and that also I can bypass this error by manually adding maps with i3exec.sh.

At higher map numbers there is also a problem in i3setup.sh where I3FILEPATH will become so long that it causes the shell to error. It seems preferable since maps are often in a single or few directories that only unique entries should be added to the variable instead of 50k "../maps" ...
